Google talks ‘to everybody’ about licensing video content

Google Inc., owner of the most-used Internet search engine, is talking to media companies about licensing their video content in anticipation of its purchase of YouTube Inc.

“We’ve visited with as many as of the media companies as we can,” Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt said Tuesday at a conference in San Francisco. “We’ve talked to everybody.”

Google agreed to buy San Bruno, Calif.-based YouTube last month for $1.65 billion in stock. Founders Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim wanted to create an easier way to share video clips online. Web surfers now view more than 100 million clips a day on the site, founded in February 2005.
